Endowed undergraduate
scholarships
Endowed undergraduate scholarships meet an especially important
need. Declining state support adds to the financial burden on our
students, forcing them to pay increased tuition and fees. Donors
may design their own scholarships and specify the selection criteria.
The minimum gift to establish an endowed scholarship is $25,000,
which may be completed over a five-year period.
Scholars Programs
The Look College and many of its departments also offer Scholars
Programs to attract the top high school students from Texas and
the nation. Endowed scholarships in these programs require a gift
of $35,000 or more and typically produce a higher annual stipend.
The Engineering Scholars Program
is an honors program at the College level that offers high-achieving
greater depth in their engineering studies and the opportunity to
interact with their academic peers. You can create a named ESP with
a gift of $35,000. For more information, contact John Small '92 at j-small@tamu.edu or (979) 845-5113.

Endowed graduate fellowships
Endowed graduate fellowships are needed to encourage more U.S.
undergraduates to pursue advanced degrees. Top-quality graduate
students are critical to faculty recruiting, our research program
and the future of engineering education. Fellowship endowments begin
at $50,000, with $300,000 being the amount required to fully fund
a single student for one year.
Endowed faculty positions
Endowed faculty positions recognize and provide additional financial
resources for our very best faculty. The positions may be restricted
to a specific area and named for the donor or someone the donor
wishes to honor. Minimum gift levels are required:
Chair — $1.5 million
Professorship — $300,000
Faculty Fellow — $100,000
These gifts are invested and distributions of the earnings are
made available to the holder as additional salary or for professional
expenses.
Chairs and professorships
are the highest honors bestowed on faculty members in the Look College.
These endowments provide program support and graduate student assistance
in addition to basic salary supplements. Corporate and university
matching programs often provide significant leverage.
Selection of Faculty Fellows
is based on their outstanding performance during the previous year.
Annual stipends are presented to deserving professors. Donors are
encouraged to consider endowments or multiyear commitments to this
program, such as $15,000 over three years or $25,000 over five years.
Faculty fellowships also may be funded with a gift of $5,000.
Rooms
and laboratories
Rooms and laboratories are available for naming
in each department of the Look College. Gift amounts vary depending
on the department and the size and use of the facility.
Equipment gifts
Equipment gifts, often called in-kind support,
are valuable to the Look College. It is virtually impossible to keep our laboratories current with rapid changes in technology. Private gifts help us maintain modern facilities and produce graduates who are experienced with the latest equipment and knowledge base.
Annual gifts
Annual gifts help meet many current needs of the Look College.
Gifts from corporations and
former students provide support for undergraduate
scholarships, graduate fellowships, faculty development and departmental
needs.
Unrestricted gifts
Unrestricted gifts are permanently retained in Excellence Funds.
The income generated is used where faculty and other needs are greatest,
including professional development, conference leadership opportunities
and increased interaction with industry. The income also supports
startup packages to cover expenses related to hiring promising young
assistant and associate professors. Unrestricted gifts allow the
dean or department head to use the funds where they are needed most.
Department campaigns and
major projects
Capital campaigns are currently under
way in the Look College address specific needs.
Employers around the world know that Texas A&M Engineering
students can hit the workforce running immediately after graduation.
It’s a quality that other schools envy, and it’s due
in large part to the impressive facilities where teaching, learning
and research take place in the Dwight Look College of Engineering.
The college’s sprawling physical plant covers 12 acres of
classrooms, laboratories, faculty offices and support space in 18
buildings. Our students gain valuable hands-on experience from industry-standard
equipment and computers.
Just as in the private sector, changing technology demands the
Look College stay current with the latest, most technologically
up-to-date facilities. Public funds, however, cannot keep pace.
Private support is necessary to bridge the gap so that our students
and faculty remain competitive.
Numerous opportunities for name recognition exist in new and current
buildings, including classrooms, laboratories, conference rooms,
floors and the buildings themselves.
