Corporate
Relations
Our reputation for preparing students with a strong work ethic
and team skills who can readily apply their engineering knowledge
has created a mutually beneficial partnership between Texas A&M Engineering
and the industries that recruit and employ our students.
Our industry partners gain
marketplace advantages from their association with the Dwight Look
College of Engineering. The beneficial relationship helps them find
a better employee, participate in intellectual exchange and invest
in excellence for tomorrow’s workforce.
The Engineering Advisory
Council is a group of industry leaders who help guide
the Texas A&M Engineering Program in strategic planning, external
relations and resource development.
Find a better employee
Hire our graduates
With one of the nation’s largest engineering student populations
and a reputation of quality demonstrated by a national top 15
ranking, the Look College is consistently one of the most recruited
engineering schools in the country. The
Texas A&M Career Center can provide detailed information
on establishing information sessions and interview days. The Student
Engineers’ Council hosts a fall and spring semester Engineering
Career Fair.
Participate in co-op and internship programs
Students gain a valuable work experience while employers gain
an enthusiastic employee and the opportunity to review potential
candidates prior to graduation interview sessions. The Co-Op
Program utilizes three full semesters of interaction between
students and employers. Internships are more informal and typically
occur during the summer in order for students to maintain usual
graduation schedule.
Work with student organizations
With over
55 recognized engineering student organizations across the
college, every industry and engineering discipline is represented.
Students interact with peers, gain professional development and
build networks with sponsor companies. Interactions include activity
contributions, meeting sponsorship, field trips, guest lecturers
and information sharing. Interaction can be focused among college-wide
organizations or discipline-specific student groups.
Establish a local presence
Some corporations have found a mutually beneficial experience
by staffing a Bryan/College
Station community or Texas
A&M Research Park facility with our engineering students.
Benefits include full-time interaction with corporate culture,
work experience for students and long-term evaluation of future
employees for the employer.
Access to intellectual property developed by our engineering
researchers also attracts companies to the Research
Valley's growing high-tech sector.
Intellectual exchange
Establish faculty internships
Strengthening the industry partnership beyond the typical avenues
of student recruitment and support requires a strategic relationship
between corporations and Texas A&M Engineering research.
A key interaction in this partnership is the corporate representative
and key faculty member. Faculty members can provide a porthole
into research and teaching that matches the corporate mission
and direction. A closer bond is made by the exchange of ideas
and culture during a faculty internship.
Faculty members are hosted and work closely with corporations
over a predetermined length of time, bringing their expertise
to the benefit of the corporation.
Invest in excellence
Matching gifts
Corporate matching
gift programs multiply the impact of personal giving by employees.
Additional visibility and recognition are gained for corporate
matching while supporting the areas of interest at the university
aligned with corporate mission.
Annual support
Corporate annual giving
in support of student activities, scholarships, faculty awards
and graduate student funds promotes the company’s short-term
initiatives and areas of interests while providing much needed
funding for the college and its departments. The awarded groups
coordinate recognition, and interaction opportunities can be arranged.
In-kind support
Donations of equipment, patents, software and intellectual property
are credited as in-kind
support to the college and in most cases provide invaluable
resources for our teaching, research and extension activities.
In some cases corporations can utilize goodwill tax advantages
by gifting this type of support.
Endowments
Endowment gifts live
in perpetuity and provide extensive visibility for the long-term
investment by corporations. Endowments require a minimum gift
of $25,000 and can be completed over a term of years. Distributions
provide consistent support for donor-directed scholarships, graduate
fellowships, faculty support and student activities for the life
of the institution.
Participate in research consortiums
As a Tier One research institution with total research
expenditures exceeding $400 million annually, Texas A&M
is a national leader in the development, design and application
of empirical and practical research. Industry can gain access
and provide perspective on specific areas of research through
membership and active involvement in a host of research consortiums.
Contract for research support
As a national leader in research, Texas A&M can provide
valuable services to companies by serving as an extension of the
corporate research and development units. Industry can contract
through the Texas Engineering Experiment
Station (TEES), the Texas
A&M Research Foundation and specific engineering departments
for faculty support to complete project specific testing, design
or application research.
Attend our short courses, seminars and lectures
Texas A&M’s academic environment is enhanced by the
exposure of internationally prominent conferences, seminars, short
courses and lectures. Attendance for most are open to any interested
parties. Corporations can excel at employee professional development
by participating in campus-organized events and activities.
Benefit from training programs
The Texas Engineering Extension
Service (TEEX) offers broad-based technical training and assistance
in a diverse range of disciplines. Our customized training programs
include hands-on, web-based and computer courses that challenge,
motivate and educate.
Gain via distance learning
Advancements in the Internet, video conferencing and telecommuting
have greatly increased the range of delivery for both academic
and extension activities of the universities. Satellite locations
around the state, as well as specially contracted corporate offices,
can be used for employees to gain additional certification, training
or academic credentials through distance
education.
Serve on advisory boards
The intellectual exchange between universities and industry is
vital to the continued progress of curriculum offerings, course
design and future employability of our graduates. Industry partners
are invited to provide insight, support accreditation
and forecast market trends directly to college administrators
and faculty through the advisory boards found in each discipline,
research consortium and project initiative.
